Compasso d’Oro alla Carriera for Giulio Cappellini
During the evening of Monday, June 20 in the spaces of the ADI Design Museum, the winners of the XXVII Compasso d’Oro were awarded.
Among them, Giulio Cappellini the Creative Director of Olmar, received the Compasso d’Oro alla Carriera for his fundamental contribution to the world of design and for his tireless research in the field. An award as a tribute to the profound curiosity, foresight and boldness of Giulio Cappellini, known internationally as one of the industry’s leading trendsetters and talent scouts.

The prestigious Jury reviewed in Giulio Cappellini a strong ability to project his own design poetics and the relationship with the many young talents he supported.
In accepting the award Giulio Cappellini recalls a master: “I think our task is to, yes, create useful and beautiful objects, but, as the great Castiglioni said, also to make people smile and dream.”

He is credited with the discovery of great professionals.
From Jasper Morrison to Nendo, via Marc Newson, Marcel Wanders, and the Bouroullec brothers, to Elena Salmistraro, Matěj Janský and Cyril Dunděra, Leonardo Talarico, Antonio Facco, Stefano Panterotto and Alexis Tourron, Johan Lindstén and Sebastian Herkner, many have emerged and grown thanks to his foresight and support.
Biografia
Giulio Cappellini was born in Milan in 1954. After graduating in Architecture he joined Cappellini in the role of art director and designer. In the company he collaborates with several young designers from all over the world and often discovered by him, creating a collection of furniture present in the main art design museums of the World. He teaches as visiting professor in several design and architecture faculties around the world and organizes exhibitions and events including the Temporary Museum for New Design at Superstudiopiù in Milan, Italian Hospitality in Singapore, I Made at the prestigious Saatchi Gallery in London, and Made in Italy in Moscow. He also collaborates as project leader on special events with design brands, fashion food. The most important magazines in the World have written about him.
He is Artistic Director of Olmar for which he oversees product image and design.
